MEDIUM ROUTE
This ride goes through the old lead mines, and the climb through will
explain the rides title!.Overall a fairly strenuous ride with 3 climbs
on broken stone surfaces, A couple of good downhills to compensate.
A balanced ride. Excellent views on route.

DIRECTIONS
SO=Straight On L=Left R=Right
1. Start at Great House Barn exit Rd, turn L onto Rivington
Lane, towards Rivington Village, after 300 yds turn R just after entrance
to Rivington Park school, onto rough track signposted BP. Continue
along until you reach the top barn, keep to the left through car park.
Follow track to left of barn, passing cottage, uphill through wooded
area to wooden gate with blue arrow on post. Through gate on rough
uphill track for 500yds, as track falls, take sharp L hairpin at junction,
follow track along to wooden gate, onto Sheephouse lane (car Park
on R). DISTANCE SO FAR 1.22 MILE

Turn L on this tarmac road for 300 yds to T junction, L at junction
for 150 yds to another T junction turn R downhill on tarmac rd for
0.72 mile. As you cross stone bridge over reservoir take R track through
metal gate, into lead mines clough, follow track over concrete bridge
then at second concrete bridge turn hairpin L up steep loose incline,
signposted BP (see if you can get to top of loose climb without stopping.)
3. Pass through wooden gate half way up this hill ,then follow track
to the L, then SO through 2 gates to junction with Moor Rd. Turn R
here for 0.9 m long tarmac downhill (Careful at bottom Sharp RH bend).Past
Heapey Watermans cottage then short uphill, onto Higher House Lane
for 0.3 mile to junction with rough uphill track opposite stone cottage
and barn, signposted BP.

Turn L onto track which is steep and loose, if you negotiate this
in 1, pat on the back time. Continue along this track for 1.12 mile
until you reach a tarmac road, which is Back Lane. Turn L here and
carry SO for 0.86 mile to T junction (Yew Tree Pub to your Right).
Turn L at this junction, carry SO, as you reach reservoir bridge you
will see small entrance in stone wall in front of you, at side of
chevron markings. Go through this onto rough uphill track. This takes
you at the side of reservoir overflow steps.
5. Follow road up for approx. 150 yds to junction with another track,
turn R, downhill for 0.4 mile, to metal gate, bear R onto tarmac lane
for 0.55 mile to next T junction, turn L, then R after 50 yds, at
the side of Rivington Primary School. Follow this track for 0.4mile
until you are back at the barn for Tea and cakes again. Don’t
forget the extra cake if you did the loose uphill section in 1!!
